As a native ads media buyer, the recent partnership between ad tech giant Taboola and Apple is big news. This collaboration will power native advertising within the Apple News and Apple Stocks apps, providing new and exciting opportunities for ad placements.
As a walk up Taboola advertiser you are not going to gain access to this inventory, at least currently. Its extremely vetted by a team of reviewers. For example, Apple does not want or allow any health related products and as you might guess, nothing gross, low quality or sexual. They also do not want anything the least bit controversial. This includes, politics, news, celebrity gossip and many more categories.
All advertisers and specifically, every single ad needs to be hand reviewed by a team following Apple’s guidelines.
How Do You Gain Access?: If you have a very clean, non health related offer, and you have an Account Manager or Sales Rep, ask them directly if your ads can be approved for Apple Inventory.
Mostly Mobile: As you might expect, this inventory is 99% mobile. So if you do get accepted into this inventory, make sure its for an offer that works well on Mobile.
No GEO Targeting: You can target Country (USA for example) but you cannot run on this inventory targeting Zip, DMA or State. Needs to be US Only targeting. This is coming from Apple, not Taboola.
Volume and Performance?: Its yet to be seen what type of volume there will be available through this channel and how exactly it will perform as we are just starting to see traffic to our campaigns this week. But theoretically this should be a great channel for quality traffic.
Conclusion: If you have a really clean offer that runs well on Mobile and has no GEO restrictions other that US Targeting, this new traffic on Apple News and Apple Stocks through Taboola is definitely worth a test.
